Student Leaders' Advisor
Role Overview
Develops and runs the student leadership programme. Coaches Head Students, prefects, house captains, and committee leads. Oversees student-led initiatives, leadership training, and recognition pathways. Ensures student voice is active and impactful.
Key Responsibilities
- Coach and mentor all student leaders (Head Students, prefects, house captains)
- Design and deliver the student leadership curriculum
- Oversee student-led initiatives and projects
- Coordinate leadership training, camps, and workshops
- Manage leadership recognition, portfolios, and progression pathways
- Report on leadership programme impact to Head of Pastoral and SLT
Processes
SA01 — Student Leader Recruitment & Selection
Frequency: yearly (Term 1, Weeks 1–3) Approval: Head of Pastoral Tools: application forms / selection rubric Coordinates with: Head of Pastoral, Homeroom Tutors
- Publish leadership roles, criteria, and application timeline
- Distribute application forms and promote through assemblies
- Collect and review applications against selection criteria
- Shortlist candidates and schedule interviews
- Conduct interviews with selection panel
- Announce selected student leaders
- Issue leadership code of conduct; collect signed agreements
- Notify Homeroom Tutors and relevant staff
SA02 — Leadership Training & Development
Frequency: termly Approval: Student Leaders' Advisor Tools: training materials / workshop plans Coordinates with: Head of Pastoral, external facilitators
- Design leadership curriculum covering service, project management, public speaking
- Schedule training workshops and briefing sessions
- Organise leadership camp or retreat (annually)
- Deliver safeguarding brief specific to student leader responsibilities
- Run skill-building sessions (communication, conflict resolution, teamwork)
- Collect feedback from participants after each session
- Adjust programme based on feedback and observed needs
SA03 — Weekly Leadership Meetings
Frequency: weekly (lunch / after school) Approval: Student Leaders' Advisor Tools: agenda / action log Coordinates with: House Captain, student committee leads
- Set agenda with student leaders (projects, events, concerns)
- Review action items from previous meeting
- Discuss upcoming initiatives and assign responsibilities
- Address any issues raised by student body
- Log decisions and actions with deadlines
- Circulate summary to Head of Pastoral
SA04 — Student-Led Initiatives & Projects
Frequency: ongoing Approval: Student Leaders' Advisor, Head of Pastoral Tools: project proposal template / reflection log Coordinates with: Head of Pastoral, Heads of Subject, CCA Coordinator
- Student leaders submit project proposals (charity drives, assemblies, peer mentoring)
- Review proposals for feasibility, alignment, and safeguarding
- Obtain mentor sign-off and Head of Pastoral approval
- Support project planning and resource coordination
- Monitor delivery and provide coaching as needed
- Student leaders complete reflection and portfolio entries
- Debrief and report outcomes
SA05 — Recognition & Progression
Frequency: termly / yearly Approval: Student Leaders' Advisor, Head of Pastoral Tools: portfolio tracker / awards register Coordinates with: Head of Pastoral, Coordinators of Cambridge
- Track leadership participation: hours served, skills gained, projects completed
- Maintain reflective portfolios for each student leader
- Award badges, certificates, and points per achievement criteria
- Nominate outstanding leaders for annual awards
- Facilitate progression pathways (junior leader → senior leader → head student)
- Report impact summary to Head of Pastoral and SLT termly
SA06 — Leadership Programme Evaluation
Frequency: termly Approval: Head of Pastoral Tools: survey / feedback forms Coordinates with: Head of Pastoral, student leaders
- Conduct termly leadership surveys with student leaders and peers
- Compile feedback on programme effectiveness and student impact
- Present findings to Head of Pastoral and SLT
- Identify improvements for the next term
- Update programme design and resources accordingly
