Role Overview

Manages the school library as a learning hub. Curates collections aligned to the Cambridge curriculum, promotes reading culture, supports research skills development, and provides a safe, organised space for independent study and enrichment.

Processes

LB01 — Collection Management & Procurement

Frequency: termly / as needed Approval: Head of Academic, Finance Tools: library management system / procurement form Coordinates with: Heads of Subject, Finance

  1. Review collection against curriculum needs and student interests
  2. Solicit recommendations from Heads of Subject and students
  3. Identify gaps, outdated materials, and replacements needed
  4. Prepare procurement request with justifications and budget
  5. Submit for approval from Head of Academic and Finance
  6. Process new acquisitions (catalogue, label, shelve)
  7. Weed outdated or damaged materials per retention policy

LB02 — Circulation & Borrowing

Frequency: daily Approval: Librarian Tools: library management system Coordinates with: Homeroom Tutors, students

  1. Manage check-out, return, and renewal transactions
  2. Issue borrower cards to new students
  3. Monitor overdue items and send reminders
  4. Follow up on lost or damaged items
  5. Generate circulation reports monthly
  6. Review borrowing trends to inform collection development

LB03 — Reading Promotion & Literacy Programmes

Frequency: ongoing / termly events Approval: Librarian Tools: reading tracker / display materials Coordinates with: Head of Academic, Heads of Subject, Homeroom Tutors

  1. Design and run reading promotion initiatives (reading challenges, book clubs, author visits)
  2. Create thematic displays and reading lists aligned to curriculum topics
  3. Coordinate with Homeroom Tutors on form-time reading
  4. Support cross-curricular literacy initiatives with Head of Academic
  5. Track reading engagement and participation data
  6. Report on reading culture initiatives termly

LB04 — Research & Information Literacy Support

Frequency: as scheduled / as needed Approval: Librarian Tools: lesson plans / research guides Coordinates with: Heads of Subject, Subject Teachers

  1. Deliver information literacy sessions (referencing, source evaluation, research skills)
  2. Support Subject Teachers with library-based lessons
  3. Prepare subject-specific resource guides and bibliographies
  4. Assist students with independent research and extended projects
  5. Maintain and curate digital resources and subscriptions

LB05 — Library Operations & Environment

Frequency: daily / termly review Approval: Librarian Tools: schedule / inventory Coordinates with: Operations

  1. Maintain library opening hours and supervision schedule
  2. Ensure the space is clean, organised, and welcoming
  3. Manage library equipment (computers, printers, displays)
  4. Conduct termly inventory and stocktake
  5. Coordinate with Operations on maintenance or facility needs
  6. Enforce library rules and promote respectful use of the space
