House Captain

Role Overview

Leads a house within the school's house system. Drives house spirit, organises house activities, mentors house members, and represents the house in school-wide events and competitions. Works closely with the Student Leaders' Advisor and Head of Pastoral.

HC01 — House Planning & Goal Setting

  1. Review previous term's house performance and feedback
  2. Set house goals and priorities for the term (participation, spirit, service)
  3. Plan house activities aligned to school events calendar
  4. Present plan to Student Leaders' Advisor for approval
  5. Communicate plan to house members through assemblies or notice boards
  6. Coordinate with other House Captains on inter-house events

HC02 — House Activities & Competitions

Frequency: as per events calendar Approval: Student Leaders' Advisor, Head of Pastoral Tools: events calendar / sign-up sheets Coordinates with: Student Leaders' Advisor, CCA Coordinator, Head of Pastoral

  1. Identify inter-house and intra-house activity opportunities
  2. Organise sign-ups and team selections
  3. Brief house members on expectations and conduct
  4. Coordinate logistics with Student Leaders' Advisor and CCA Coordinator
  5. Lead house during competitions and events
  6. Record results and update house points
  7. Debrief with house members after each event

HC03 — House Assemblies & Communication

  1. Plan house assembly content (updates, recognition, motivation)
  2. Submit assembly plan to Student Leaders' Advisor
  3. Deliver assembly to house members
  4. Use notice boards or digital channels for ongoing communication
  5. Collect feedback and suggestions from house members

HC04 — Mentoring & House Culture

Frequency: ongoing Approval: House Captain Tools: mentoring log Coordinates with: Student Leaders' Advisor, Homeroom Tutors

  1. Identify junior members who would benefit from peer mentoring
  2. Pair with senior house members or self as mentor
  3. Check in regularly with mentees on well-being and school life
  4. Promote positive behaviour, inclusion, and house identity
  5. Escalate any concerns to Student Leaders' Advisor or Homeroom Tutor
  6. Log mentoring activities for portfolio

HC05 — House Points & Reporting

Frequency: weekly / termly Approval: Student Leaders' Advisor Tools: points tracker Coordinates with: Student Leaders' Advisor, Subject Teachers

  1. Collect and record house points from activities, behaviour, and academics
  2. Update house leaderboard weekly
  3. Identify areas for improvement or additional participation
  4. Prepare termly house report for Student Leaders' Advisor
  5. Celebrate achievements at house assemblies
