Role Overview

Classroom assistant in the ACE PLUS programme (special education / SEN setting). Supports the Supervisor by managing daily classroom operations, student safety, goal card monitoring, reading guidance, and break/dismissal supervision. Applies positive behaviour support and is attentive to each student's sensory, emotional, and physical needs.

Key Responsibilities


1. Arrival & Opening (7:45–8:00 AM)

MT01 — Pre-Class Safety & Screening

  1. Bring students to class safely
  2. Conduct body screening — check for scratches, wounds, or signs of illness
  3. Observe students for mood or behaviour changes and report concerns to Supervisor
  4. Supervisor to contact parents if signs of sickness, injury, or significant behavioural change are noticed
  5. Assist all students to settle down and prepare for class
  6. Collect and hand in homework
  7. Take attendance
  8. Check students' uniforms and water bottles

2. Class Time

MT02 — Reading, Vocab Guide & Classroom Support

Frequency: daily Approval: Supervisor Tools: reading materials / vocab lists / goal cards / scoring device Coordinates with: Supervisor

  1. Check goal cards — ensure students are setting goals correctly
  2. Give reading to each student and ensure they read before answering questions
  3. Guide students through vocabulary exercises
  4. Adapt pace and approach to individual student's comprehension level
  5. Use visual aids or other supports as recommended by Supervisor or Interventionist
  6. Correct pronunciation and comprehension as needed
  7. Answer flags and respond to simple needs (toileting, stationery)
  8. Remind students of classroom rules
  9. Make sure all students remain on seat and doing work
  10. Use positive behaviour support and reinforcement
  11. Keep students on task and safe
  12. NO PHONE allowed during class time
  13. Assist Supervisor to double-score students' PACEs (score key / classroom device)
  14. Assist Supervisor with any other needs as they arise
  15. Report progress or concerns to Supervisor

MT03 — Checkup Quiz

Frequency: as needed Approval: Supervisor Tools: quiz materials Coordinates with: Supervisor

  1. Identify students due for checkup quiz (based on PACE progress)
  2. Check student is in a suitable state to take the quiz
  3. Administer quiz under proper conditions
  4. Collect and pass completed quizzes to Supervisor for marking
  5. Record quiz completion in tracking

3. Test Time

MT04 — Test Preparation

  1. Check if students have a PACE test scheduled for the next day
  2. Place test materials on Supervisor's table for preparation
  3. Ensure testing area is quiet and ready

4. Break (10:00–10:30 AM)

MT05 — Break Safety

  1. Supervise students during line-up and transitions to canteen
  2. Sit and eat with all students during break
  3. Ensure all students remain in designated area
  4. Assist students with eating as needed (cut food, remove fishbone, etc.)
  5. Ensure inclusion and peer social opportunities during break
  6. Address any problems or conflicts immediately using positive behaviour support
  7. Report to Supervisor if any student has no food
  8. Supervisor or Operations to contact parents if student has no food
  9. Supervise transition back to classroom

MT06 — PE Class Safety

  1. Accompany students to PE area
  2. Ensure all students are in appropriate attire
  3. Monitor student safety during physical activities, watching for sensory overload or fatigue
  4. Assist with any injuries or incidents
  5. Accompany students back to classroom after PE

5. Dismissal (1:30–2:00 PM)

MT07 — Dismissal

  1. Check goal cards to ensure students have completed all daily goals
  2. Distribute rewards (tokens / merit points) for goal completion
  3. Ensure desks, play area, and scoring stations are neat
  4. Supervise students during line-up
  5. Hand over students safely to parents or transport

6. After Dismissal (2:00–2:30 PM)

MT08 — After Dismissal Duties

  1. Update star chart — paste stars for students who completed PACE tests
  2. Debrief with Supervisor on any unfinished duties or issues
  3. Assist Supervisor with classroom tidy-up (wash toilet, hand towels)
  4. File PACE tests after Supervisor has marked them

7. Admin & Periodic

MT09 — Design Bulletin Board

Frequency: termly / as needed Approval: Supervisor Tools: display materials Coordinates with: Supervisor

  1. Discuss theme and content with Supervisor
  2. Plan layout and gather materials
  3. Prepare visual elements (posters, student work, motivational quotes)
  4. Set up bulletin board display with consideration for sensory-friendly visuals
  5. Update regularly throughout the term
  6. Refresh for new term or special events

MT10 — Goal Check Report (Yearly)

Frequency: yearly Approval: Supervisor Tools: goal card data / spreadsheet Coordinates with: Supervisor

  1. Compile goal card completion data for all students across the year
  2. Calculate completion rates and trends per student
  3. Identify students consistently meeting or missing goals
  4. Note any patterns related to individual student needs or accommodations
  5. Prepare summary report for Supervisor
  6. Submit report for use in progress reviews and report cards

9. Others

MT11 — Scorekey and Labels Repairs (End of Year)

Frequency: yearly Approval: Supervisor Tools: score keys / labels / repair materials Coordinates with: Supervisor

  1. Audit all score keys for damage or wear at end of year
  2. Identify labels that need replacement
  3. Repair or replace damaged score keys and labels
  4. Organise and file score keys for next academic year
  5. Report any items needing procurement to Supervisor
